Kate Winslet jokes about beating Tom Cruise's underwater breath-holding record

Kate Winslet recently shared with USA Today about breaking Tom Cruise's impressive record and how she trained for her latest movie, Avatar: The Way of Water.

During the James Cameron project, Winslet held her breath underwater for seven minutes and 47 seconds, officially breaking Cruise's previous record of six minutes while filming Mission: Impossible — Rogue Nation in 2015. Winslet jokingly said that Cruise might be getting fed up with hearing the story of how she broke his record.

She credited her husband, Edward Abel Smith, for helping her practice and emphasized the importance of having a buddy when practicing underwater breath-holding. Sigourney Weaver, who stars alongside Winslet in the follow-up to 2009's original Avatar film, expressed her delight for Winslet and her achievement.

Earlier this month, Winslet revealed she captured the moment she emerged from her seven-plus minutes-long breath hold, saying she wanted director James Cameron to know right away.

While she only wanted to break her previous record of six minutes and 14 seconds, she ended up smashing it by a minute.
