The Duke and Duchess of Sussex christened their daughter Lilibet last week and referred to her as a princess for the first time. After this move, King Charles officially recognized Prince Archie Harrison with his royal title.
However, the couple has been criticized for using their tactics to manipulate King Charles into granting the titles. Christopher Andersen, the author of The King: The Life of Charles III, suggested that the Sussexes essentially made the decision for the monarch, which frustrated palace aides.
Andersen referred to the "men in gray" who run the monarchy and were taken by surprise by the move. He also criticized Prince Harry and Meghan for repeatedly attacking the monarchy in media interviews, their memoir, and their Netflix series, despite taking the royal titles.
Andersen commented that it seemed ironic that the titles were more important to the couple, considering they are no longer working royals, live far away, and frequently criticize the palace.
