The book's author, Tony Jerris, claims that Marilyn even had a romantic relationship with a 16-year-old Jane Lawrence in 1955. Jerris explains that Jane and Marilyn met when Jane was just 12 years old, as her adopted father worked in the legal department at RKO studio. Despite their 14-year age difference, the two women became close friends as they discovered they had both been in the same orphanage at different times in their lives, and neither knew their birth fathers.
Jane struggled with her sexuality and confided in Marilyn about it many times. Marilyn was very understanding and supportive, telling Jane that "Whatever your sexual preference is, it means nothing - love is love," according to Jerris, who first met Lawrence in 2001.
Lawrence recounted to the author the sexual encounter she had with Marilyn when she was 16 years old. She described how she visited Marilyn at her home and things became intimate. "The next few minutes became hazy, surreal and dream-like. My pulse leaped as Marilyn kissed my thigh again... she then leaned in and kissed me full on the lips, very softly and very slowly. I was nearly hyperventilating," said Lawrence in the memoir. They eventually moved from the living room to the bedroom.
While some remain skeptical of these claims, the book has sparked renewed interest in Marilyn Monroe's personal life and the possibility of her being bisexual.
