Meghan and Harry in William and Kate's Shadow at King Charles Coronation

Meghan and Harry in William and Kate's Shadow at King Charles Coronation

According to commentator Dr. Tessa Dunlop, there is a possibility that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle will be overshadowed by Prince William and Kate Middleton at King Charles's coronation.

Dr. Dunlop believes that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex will not be allowed to stand out at the Coronation, while the Prince and Princess of Wales will be free to remind the public that they are the future King and Queen.

Dr. Dunlop also raises the question of whether the Sussexes will attend the Coronation and if so, in what capacity. She cites historical precedent that does not bode well, such as King Edward VIII's decision not to attend the coronation of his brother George VI or his niece Elizabeth II after his abdication and fall from grace.

However, Dr. Dunlop notes that with a father-King who wants both his sons by his side, Prince Harry is likely to attend the Coronation, albeit without a coronet and robe. If Meghan attends, any Coronation finery will be entirely her own, and there will be very few ceremonies for her.

Dr. Dunlop emphasizes that the Coronation is all about royal hierarchy, and the visual messaging through both costume and carriage will remind the public who the future King and Queen are. Therefore, it is likely that working royals such as Prince William and his offspring will stand out, while Prince Harry and Meghan Markle may be left in their shadow.
