The Duke and Duchess of Sussex, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, celebrated their daughter, Lilibet's christening with close friends in America, avoiding a British baptism for their youngest child.
The couple, who had relocated to the US in 2020, held an intimate ceremony at their Montecito mansion in California, leaving Harry's father, King Charles III, and brother, Prince William, heartbroken with their move. It has been reported that the royal family did not appreciate the couple's decision to hold the christening event in California.
Meghan and Harry had invited members of the British royal family, including King Charles, Queen Consort Camilla, and the Prince and Princess of Wales, to Lilibet's christening ceremony, but they did not attend. Instead, the couple held an Anglican ceremony at their new home in Los Angeles, where their 21-month-old daughter was baptized by the Anglican Bishop of Los Angeles, Reverend John Taylor.
According to reports, Meghan's mother, Doria Ragland, was also in attendance at the ceremony and danced to music from the Duke and Duchess of Sussex's wedding reception at Windsor Castle. A gospel choir reportedly performed 'Oh Happy Day' and 'This Little Light of Mine' at the event. Tyler Perry, the couple's billionaire godfather, was also among the guests
