Markle played lawyer Rachel Zane in the American legal drama, and she confirmed her departure from the show after announcing her engagement to the prince.
Korsh said that he knew from a year ago that this relationship was likely to work out, but he did not want to intrude and ask her what her plans were.
So, he and the writers decided to take a risk, believing that Markle and Prince Harry were in love and that it was going to work out.
They planned for Markle's departure from the show and wrote her character out by having her marry her on-screen partner Mike Ross, played by Patrick J Adams, in the current series.
Adams joked on Twitter that he thought his on-screen partner had just popped out for milk, but he later posted a glowing tribute to Markle, congratulating her on her engagement to Prince Harry.
Korsh thinks that Markle will do well dealing with the pressure of royal life, saying that she is a natural in front of the camera, and her intelligence and poise mean that she is more than capable of handling it.
Korsh described the couple's engagement as "like a fairytale," and he believes that their long life together will be joyful, productive, and hilarious. The royal wedding is scheduled to take place at Windsor Castle in May.
