The couple is currently contemplating whether or not to attend the ceremony, and their potential presence has already generated a lot of buzz.
According to Polly Hudson, a royal expert who wrote a column for the Mirror, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex's attendance would be the "only interesting thing about the whole event."
Hudson also lamented about the ostentatious display of wealth during the cost of living crisis, and questioned who would be paying for the £100 million event. She expressed concern that it would be taxpayers who foot the bill, rather than the government.
Despite the potential controversy surrounding the event, one highly-placed palace insider shared with Page Six that "whatever happens, Harry and Meghan will always be the ones in the headlines." They added, "Whether they come or they stay at home in California, they do hold the upper hand."
In her column, Hudson also expressed concern that the Coronation would be an "occasion" in which "the solitary talking point looks likely to be some people who aren't there." She acknowledged that while the event may mean a lot to some Brits, it's not something she personally would choose to spend her taxes on.
