On March 17th, 2023, Selena Gomez made history by becoming the first woman on Instagram to reach over 400 million followers. The Only Murders in the Building star had already surpassed Kylie Jenner as the most-followed woman on the platform in the previous month.
To celebrate this milestone, the 30-year-old singer and actress posted a carousel of photos of herself posing with fans on her Instagram page. In the caption, she expressed her love for her fans and wished she could hug all 400 million of them.
The photos in the carousel included some from Selena's Revival era in 2015, where fans were holding a placard that referenced her song "Can't Keep My Hands to Myself." Just a day after reaching this feat, Selena's follower count climbed to over 401 million. Despite her massive following, soccer player Cristiano Ronaldo is still holding onto the top spot with 563 million followers, followed by Selena and then Kylie with 382 million followers.
Selena's famous friends also took to the comments section to congratulate her on her achievement.
Paris Hilton left a heart-eyed emoji, while Serena Williams wrote "Love you!!!!!" followed by several heart and heart-eyed emojis. Fans also expressed their excitement and admiration for Selena, with one fan ambitiously writing, "500 million we are coming!!!" Another fan congratulated Selena and said, "You are so loved and deserve it! Congratulations!!"
