When Harry proposed to Meghan in 2017, he presented her with a dazzling trilogy ring with a gold band. However, during her pregnancy with their son Archie, Meghan was seen without her engagement or wedding rings, which led people to believe that she had altered the original band due to swelling in her fingers. But in reality, Harry decided to upgrade the band at the same time that he ordered a bespoke eternity ring for their first wedding anniversary.
According to the book "Finding Freedom" by Omid Scobie and Carolyn Durand, Harry surprised Meghan with an eternity ring created by jeweler-to-the-stars Lorraine Schwartz. The ring paid homage to their family of three, with Meghan's, Archie's, and Harry's birthstones (peridot, emerald, and sapphire, respectively) on the underside of the band.
Schwartz said that Harry wanted to make the eternity ring "special," and was also thoughtful enough to have her resize and reset Meghan's engagement ring with a new diamond band. Eagle-eyed fans first noticed the changes to Meghan's ring at her post-baby appearance at Trooping the Colour in 2019.
The original engagement ring had a gold band and was created by Cleave and Company, Court Jewellers and Medallists to Her Majesty the Queen. The trilogy ring features a large central diamond from Botswana, where the couple previously vacationed together, flanked by two smaller diamonds from Harry's late mother's personal collection.
During their first sit-down interview with the BBC, Harry explained that the ring is obviously yellow gold because that's Meghan's favorite and the diamonds were specially chosen to make sure that his mother was with them on their journey together.
