McAdams plays Esti Kuperman, a married Orthodox Jewish woman who falls in love with Weisz's character, Ronit Krushka.
The scene in question involves Ronit spitting into Esti's mouth, and McAdams described it as unlike any other s*x scene she's shot before.
Despite the graphic nature of the scene, McAdams explained that every moment was purposeful and integral to the plot.
"The characters need this release to open up," she said. McAdams also noted that there was a certain energy to the scene that she hadn't experienced in any other s*x scenes with men in her career.
However, McAdams emphasized that the movie isn't just about telling a lesbian story. Rather, it's a story about love and the unfair oppression of love and s*xuality. "It's just humans being with humans," she said.
