In an interview with Fox Nation's Piers Morgan, Daniels stated that she did not believe Trump's crimes against her warranted incarceration, although she acknowledged that if he is found guilty of other charges, he should be punished accordingly.
On Tuesday, Trump was charged in New York with 34 felony counts of falsifying business records in relation to allegations that he arranged for hush money payments to be made to Daniels and former Playboy model Karen McDougal before the 2016 US presidential election to prevent the publication of their alleged s-xual encounters with him.
Trump also faces criminal investigations in Washington for attempting to overturn his 2020 election loss and mishandling classified documents, as well as a separate criminal probe in Georgia related to his efforts to overturn his defeat in that state.
Prosecutors in Manhattan accused Trump, the first sitting or former US president to face criminal charges, of trying to conceal a violation of election laws during his successful 2016 campaign. Trump denies having had an affair with Daniels but has acknowledged the payment.
Legal experts have stated that a trial may not even begin for a year, and that an indictment or conviction would not legally prevent Trump from running for president.
The next hearing in the case is scheduled for December 4. Daniels has said that if the case goes to trial, she would like to testify, as she believes she has nothing to hide and has been telling the truth.
