Critics of the couple alleged that the Duchess of Sussex hurriedly made her way to the restaurant entrance, seemingly eager to be photographed alongside the Charlie's Angels star.
Furthermore, the Duke of Sussex also faced ridicule as it was suggested that his wife had "abandoned him" in order to get a picture with the celebrity. Numerous memes mocking the couple, who now reside in the United States, spread across the internet. However, it later emerged that Meghan and Harry were not as desperate as their critics had claimed to be photographed with Diaz and her musician husband.
Interestingly, even newspapers and tabloids known for their critical stance on Meghan Markle and Prince Harry reported that the couple was seen dining at a sushi restaurant in Montecito alongside Cameron Diaz and Gwyneth Paltrow. The Daily Mail mentioned that last Friday, the Sussexes were observed outside the restaurant in the company of Diaz, Madden, and their bodyguard Dave Langdown.
The newspaper further stated that the friendship between the Sussexes and Diaz was previously unknown until the release of the pictures. In fact, Prince Harry himself denied claims of dating Diaz in his biography, Spare, published in January.
Having stepped down from their royal duties, the couple is currently based in California and has gained recognition through the projects they have undertaken since arriving in the United States.
