The couple was leaving the Ms. Foundation for Women annual charity gala at Manhattan's Ziegfeld Ballroom, where Meghan was receiving an award, when they were pursued by half a dozen vehicles for more than two hours.
The chase resulted in multiple near collisions involving other drivers, pedestrians, and New York Police Department officers.
Meghan and Harry's spokesperson released a statement following the incident, saying that the couple was "involved in a near-catastrophic car chase at the hands of a ring of highly aggressive paparazzi."
The statement went on to say that the chase was "reckless and dangerous" and that it "put the lives of all involved at risk."
The New York Police Department is investigating the incident.
