A citizen accused the couple of utilizing NYPD resources without charge, stating that "the city has much more pressing safety concerns."
One citizen filed a complaint online, expressing their discontent as a taxpayer and voter of NYC, stating that NYPD resources were being utilized to provide additional security for Prince Harry and Meghan Markle during their visits to NYC.
The mayor has been urged not to provide complimentary security details to the Duke and Duchess of Sussex.
Meanwhile, the couple is facing criticism in the UK for supposedly attempting to recreate the circumstances of Princess Diana's tragic accident.
On Wednesday, a spokesperson for the Duke of Sussex claimed that Prince Harry, Meghan Markle, and her mother were involved in a "near catastrophic" car chase with paparazzi after attending an awards ceremony in New York.
The spokesperson described the incident as involving "a group of highly aggressive photographers" in several cars with tinted windows, driving recklessly and endangering the lives of the couple and Doria Ragland.
The NYPD, which stated that it had assisted the private security team responsible for their protection, downplayed the seriousness of the incident.
Julian Phillips, the chief spokesperson for the NYPD, stated in a release, "There were numerous photographers that posed challenges during their transportation. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex reached their destination without any reported collisions, violations, injuries, or arrests."
