Backgrid USA, in response to their demand, stated, "In America, as I'm sure you know, property belongs to the owner of it: Third parties cannot just demand it be given to them, as perhaps Kings can do," sarcastically referring to the couple's royal background.
They further ridiculed the couple by suggesting they should be reminded that the English rules of royal prerogative, which allow demanding property from citizens, were no longer applicable in the United States. The agency stood by their principles, asserting their adherence to the values of America's founding fathers.
Initially, the company assured Entertainment Tonight that they would investigate the matter, emphasizing their commitment to transparency and ethics in journalism. However, they stated that the photographers present during the incident reported no near-collisions or near-crashes, suggesting that the couple was not in immediate danger at any point.
Dismissing Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's claims, the agency also acknowledged that some of their hired photographers alleged that one of the vehicles from the Duke's security escort was driving in a manner that could be interpreted as reckless.
