According to royal commentator Tom Sykes, this legal milestone will see Harry become the first senior royal to give evidence in open court since the then-Prince of Wales, later known as Edward VII, was involved in a court case back in 1890. The case revolved around allegations that an acquaintance of his had cheated in a game of cards.
Sykes further shared insights from media lawyer Mark Stephens of Howard Kennedy, who described the situation as unprecedented. He noted that the last time a royal appeared in court was during Edward VII's time as Prince of Wales in the baccarat scandal case. In that instance, the prince acted as a witness to cheating, provided evidence, and faced limited challenges.
Beyond the legal implications, Sykes raised the notion that this recent development involving Prince Harry may have left the royal family feeling concerned and slightly anxious. He concluded that the forthcoming testimony, delivered by a visibly disgruntled Prince Harry, could pose significant risks to his estranged family.
It is worth noting that Prince Harry remains entangled in a well-known dispute with his family, particularly with his stepmother, the newly-crowned Queen Camilla, and his brother Prince William.
