The unnamed confidant of Prince William also mocked Harry and Meghan for attending a high-profile gala on the same night they claimed to have been chased, despite their decision to leave the royal family for a quieter life.
"William and Kate Middleton have endured similar situations in the past," the close confidant shared with the Daily Beast.
"While we understand Harry's frustration with the photographers, making exaggerated statements doesn't help the situation, particularly when, as the Queen might have said, everyone's recollections may differ," they added.
"I thought they wanted a quieter life after leaving the royal family," the insider questioned. "If Harry is triggered by flashbulbs, I fail to comprehend why he would attend award ceremonies."
In 2020, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle stepped down from their senior roles in the royal family, seeking a simpler life away from the public eye.
Echoing the sentiments of Prince William's anonymous friend, an acquaintance of King Charles III responded to the couple's claim of being chased in their car by stating that the new monarch has consistently advised Harry against complaining about the media.
"Charles can certainly empathize with Harry's distress at being pursued by paparazzi," the unnamed friend of Charles shared with the publication.
"He understands how frightening it can be. However, he has always tried to make Harry understand that complaining about photographers or the media is futile. It only exacerbates the situation."
