This incident occurred on Tuesday, May 16th, 2023, as the Duke and Duchess of Sussex were making their way back from an event.
Contrary to their account, recent reports suggest that Prince Harry and Meghan intentionally walked out in front of the photographers, much to the dismay of their security team.
According to Page Six, the couple's security detail was led by a former member of Barack Obama's Secret Service detail, renowned for his expertise in discreetly extricating celebrities from high-profile situations.
However, on that Tuesday night, Prince Harry and Meghan, accompanied by Chris Sanchez, an esteemed ex-Secret Service agent, decided to deviate from their usual approach. They chose to exit the Ziegfeld Ballroom through the back, around 10 p.m., as they wanted to offer the waiting photographers an opportunity to capture their images.
A source close to the Sussexes revealed to the outlet that the couple willingly provided the photographers with those shots upon leaving the event. The problem arose when they were relentlessly pursued from that point onwards.
The source stated, "Harry and Meghan were willing to give everyone those shots when they left the event, that was not the problem, but they were tailed from that point on."
Their representative, Ashley Hansen, expressed to the New York Times on Friday that the resulting images captured during the incident were deemed "some of the most beautiful images of the evening."
Nonetheless, the couple did not stop to pose for the photographers. The photographs depict an initially smiling Prince Harry leading his wife by the hand, but his expression subsequently turns into a scowl.
Ultimately, a sizable group of security personnel intervened, preventing the photographers from capturing further images as Prince Harry and Meghan got into their awaiting SUV.
