According to a report, the Duke of Sussex and Prince of Wales met at Kensington Palace just one week prior to Prince Harry's announcement of his engagement to Meghan in 2017. The meeting included Princess Diana's former butler, Paul Burrell, as revealed by The Sun.
It had been reported that Harry and William last spoke to Burrell after Diana's funeral in 1997 when they were 12 and 15 years old. However, Burrell attended the meeting alone and addressed the brothers' inquiries.
A source close to the royal family shared with The Sun, "It was a very discreet meeting, but the brothers wanted to speak with someone who had been close to their mother. They believed Paul could provide better clarity on certain aspects of her life.
They requested that the meeting remain confidential, and he respected their wishes. Paul was more than willing to share everything he knew and shed light on their memories."
Burrell, who was a trusted confidant to Diana for almost a decade, faced criticism in 2003 for publishing a book about his time working for her. In a recent appearance on I'm A Celebrity: South Africa, he discussed how Diana would have strongly desired to reconcile William and Harry.
The meeting between Burrell and the royal brothers took place a few months before Prince Harry's wedding to Meghan Markle. The couple exchanged vows at St George's Chapel in Windsor Castle.
Initially, it was believed that Prince William would be Prince Harry's best man on his special day. However, in his memoir "Spare," Prince Harry revealed that he chose his "old friend" Charlie as his best man.
Reflecting on the situation, Prince Harry wondered if Prince William was upset because he wasn't chosen as the best man and if the royal family's announcement of William being the best man at his wedding to Kate played a part in his reaction.
