Prince Harry and Meghan Markle made headlines recently when they found themselves in the middle of a controversy involving paparazzi.
The couple claimed that they were caught up in a dangerous car chase with overly aggressive photographers, labeling it a 'catastrophic' event. However, it appears that their own judgment may have played a role in the incident that took place on Tuesday, May 16th, 2023.
New reports have emerged suggesting that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex made a deliberate decision to walk in front of the paparazzi, much to the chagrin of their security team. According to an article in Page Six, their security detail was led by a former member of Barack Obama's Secret Service team, known for his expertise in discreetly extracting celebrities from high-profile situations, earning him the nickname "the king of the back exits."
Despite the presence of Chris Sanchez, a renowned ex-Secret Serviceman, Prince Harry and Meghan opted for a different approach as they departed from the Ziegfeld Ballroom on that fateful Tuesday night.
A source close to the couple revealed to the outlet that they chose to exit through the back of the ballroom at around 10 p.m., intending to offer the waiting photographers an opportunity to capture their images.
The source explained, "Harry and Meghan were willing to provide those shots to everyone when they left the event; that wasn't the issue. However, they were followed from that point onward." It seems that the couple's intention to appease the paparazzi by granting them a visual moment resulted in unexpected consequences.
Their representative, Ashley Hansen, commented to the New York Times that the photographs taken during the incident were "some of the most beautiful images of the evening." Nonetheless, the couple did not stop to pose for the photographers.
The photographs that emerged depicted a initially smiling Prince Harry leading his wife by the hand, but his expression soon turned to a scowl. Finally, a large group of security personnel intervened, blocking the photographers' attempts to capture shots of the couple as they entered their waiting SUV.
