Sources close to the Stars at Noon actor claim that he had believed Swift would not subject him to what they call "the Harry Styles treatment." In other words, he expected her to refrain from publicly chronicling their breakup in song, as she did with her infamous breakup anthem 'I Knew You Were Trouble' that was believed to be about Styles.
When Swift released her latest track, 'You're Losing Me!,' which seemingly details their separation, Alwyn took it as a betrayal by the singer. He found the song both embarrassing and disappointing, particularly because Swift was simultaneously showcasing her new romance with Matty Healy.
Alwyn had hoped that Swift, out of respect for their privacy and his preference for a low-key lifestyle, would not create a song about their breakup. He is not the type of person who engages in public revelations about his relationships.
"It may have been wishful thinking, but Joe believed that she would spare him the Harry Styles treatment," shared an insider familiar with the situation. The reference to the Harry Styles treatment indicates Swift's tendency to publicly express her feelings about her past relationships through her music.
The insider further added, "Joe finds it incredibly embarrassing and disappointing, especially when she's flaunting this new romance. The level of hypocrisy and rudeness is truly off the charts."
While Alwyn is not inclined to disclose intimate details about his relationships, he also won't be pushed around. He is respectfully asking Swift to let him move on and keep their past private.
In the song, Swift sings, "My heart won't start anymore for you 'cause you're losing me," and delves into their romance with the lyrics, "You don't know what you got until it's gone."
It remains to be seen how the situation between Alwyn and Swift will unfold, but it is clear that Alwyn is expressing his dissatisfaction with Swift's choice to incorporate their relationship into her music.
