Frogmore Cottage was originally gifted to Harry and Meghan by Queen Elizabeth following their wedding, and the couple refurbished the property using funds from the Sovereign Grant. However, they have since repaid the entire cost associated with the renovations.
According to a palace official, Harry and Meghan have recently packed up and left Frogmore Cottage. Speculation arose that King Charles intended for his brother, Prince Andrew, to move into Frogmore, subsequently requiring him to vacate Royal Lodge at Windsor.
Initially, when Harry and Meghan stepped down as senior working royals, it was announced that they would retain Frogmore Cottage as their UK residence, ensuring their family always had a place to call home in the United Kingdom. Buckingham Palace had also stated that Frogmore Cottage would continue to serve as their UK family home.
In June 2022, Prince Harry, Meghan, along with their children Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, returned to the UK for Queen Elizabeth's Platinum Jubilee and stayed at Frogmore Cottage. During their stay, they celebrated Lili's first birthday and began packing up many of their belongings.
In March 2023, when Prince Harry visited the UK for preliminary hearings regarding his phone hacking lawsuit, it was reported that he stayed at Frogmore Cottage. The Telegraph suggested that this visit allowed him to sort out their belongings and make arrangements for shipping items to the US in preparation for vacating the property.
As of now, it appears that Montecito, California is their full-time and sole place of residence.
