The Invictus Games, which hold a special place in the Royal Family's sporting calendar, will kick off from Dusseldorf on September 9th. Recently, the organizers unveiled the names of the two individuals who will lead the opening ceremony for this year's week-long event.
The official Twitter account of Invictus Games Dusseldorf 2023, in an announcement posted on Monday, June 26th, confirmed that Hatnet Tesfi and Stephen Gachin will have the honor of opening the event. Hatnet Tesfi is a veteran German broadcaster who hosts her own TV show, podcast, and radio show. She has also been involved with the Berlin Film Festival.
Similarly, Stephen Gachin, an American-born host, has an impressive portfolio, having hosted the red carpet show for the German Academy Awards from 2000 to 2002 and producing his own podcast, "Kino Oda Couch Cinema."
As the founder of the Invictus Games, the Duke of Sussex himself is expected to attend the opening ceremony in September. Prince Harry typically delivers an opening speech, expressing his gratitude to the competitors, and welcoming them back after the two-year hiatus caused by the COVID-19 pandemic in 2022.
Last year, at the Hague Stadium, Prince Harry conveyed his appreciation to the gathered athletes and spectators, expressing how much he missed them and thanking the Dutch authorities for their assistance in organizing the event. He emphasized the importance of the human spirit, resilience, and the power to recover and come back stronger.
During his heartfelt statement, Prince Harry also shared the exciting news about his young son Archie's dreams for the future. He mentioned that while Archie's aspirations fluctuate between wanting to be an astronaut, a pilot, or even a helicopter pilot, what truly matters is one's personality as they grow up.
Prince Harry founded the Invictus Games in 2014, creating a platform for wounded, injured, and sick servicemen and women to showcase their skills and determination. Competitors from various countries participate in a range of events, including wheelchair racing and basketball, where they have the opportunity to win gold, silver, and bronze medals.
