During an interview on Dax Shepard's "Armchair Expert" podcast, Clarke, 33, revealed a particular incident where she declined a n^de scene despite being warned that it would disappoint "Game of Thrones" viewers.
She expressed her frustration, recounting confrontations on set when she insisted on keeping a sheet covering her body. The crew would argue, suggesting that she shouldn't let down the devoted fans of the show. Clarke firmly responded to their pressure, stating, "F--k you."
The actress, known for her role in "Last Christmas," admitted feeling overwhelmed by the significant amount of n^dity featured in the pilot season of "Game of Thrones." At the time, having recently graduated from drama school, Clarke initially convinced herself that being n^k^d on camera was acceptable.
However, she still grappled with the idea of exposing herself and faced challenges when trying to navigate the expectations on set.
Fortunately, Clarke credited fellow actor Jason Momoa, who portrayed her on-screen husband Khal Drogo in the show's first season, for teaching her to establish boundaries. According to The Independent, Momoa supported her by stating that certain situations were not acceptable. Clarke described the experience as enlightening and appreciated Momoa's intervention.
Since then, Clarke has set personal guidelines, which explains the relatively limited n^dity of her character, Khaleesi, in the show's subsequent seasons. She mentioned a specific scene where Daenerys commands Daario Naharis, played by Dutch actor Michiel Huisman, to strip in front of her, which received attention. Reports from Uproxx highlight Clarke's assertion that she is now more knowledgeable about her comfort levels and what she is willing to do on screen.
Currently, Emilia Clarke stars in Paul Feig's romantic comedy "Last Christmas," alongside Henry Golding from "Crazy Rich Asians." The film is currently showing in theaters.
