Penguin Random House CEO Cuts Prince Harry's $40M Deal as Prince Sells Secret Document to Rival Publishers

Penguin Random House CEO Cuts Prince Harry's $40M Deal as Prince Sells Secret Document to Rival Publishers

Prince Harry, who had secured a lucrative four-book deal worth $35 to $40 million with Penguin Random House, is now facing a major setback.

The CEO of Penguin Random House, Bertelsmann, has decided to cancel the publishing contract with Harry after discovering that the prince had shared confidential information with a rival publisher. This revelation comes as a shock, as Harry had initially announced the deal in July 2021.

The delay in the publication of Omid Scobie's book, "Endgame," which is linked to Harry, has raised suspicions that the prince might have provided insider information about the royal family's affairs.

This move has left Harry's publisher furious, considering the valuable information he provided to a competitor. Penguin Random House, a British trade book publisher and subsidiary of the German media conglomerate Bertelsmann, is deeply disappointed by Harry's actions.

Scobie, a well-regarded royal reporter and co-author of the 2020 book "Finding Freedom" about Harry and Meghan, is set to release "Endgame," an investigative work exploring the royal family's struggle for survival, on November 21st.

However, the book's release has been pushed back by three months to incorporate sensational details about Harry's brief visit to the UK during the coronation period when he accompanied his wife and children. Scobie stated that the global release, including the UK, is scheduled for November 21st, adding that he intends to continue writing beyond the coronation, deviating from the original plan.

It is worth noting that earlier this year, the Duchess of Sussex issued an apology in the high court for her failure to recall authorizing a senior aide to brief Scobie and co-author Carolyn Durand for their unofficial biography. Prince Harry, during the same court proceedings, acknowledged his familiarity with Scobie before correcting himself to say that he knew of him.

Scobie, as the royal editor of the US website Harper's Bazaar, is expected to possess insider knowledge of the decision-making process that led to Harry's brief UK visit before returning to LA to celebrate his son Archie's birthday.

Scobie has promised that his upcoming book will offer unique insights, in-depth access, and exclusive revelations. However, this revelation of Harry's betrayal has put his relationship with his book publisher at stake. It appears that Harry's fate with his publisher is following a similar path to Megan's ousting from Spotify, while Netflix has also issued an ultimatum to the Sussexes.

These developments suggest that Harry and Meghan are facing the consequences of their actions, with industry figures such as Spotify executive Bill Simmons labeling them as grifters. It turns out that Meghan Markle's audio talents were not as exceptional as expected, highlighting that fame alone does not guarantee excellence in a particular field.
