The Unexpected Wardrobe Malfunction: A 'Supergirl' Melissa Benoist On-Set Costume Mishap

During the filming of the third season of the show in Vancouver, Canada, the lead actress of "Supergirl," Melissa Benoist, encountered an unexpected costume malfunction.

The windy weather conditions played a mischievous role as Benoist's skirt was blown up, inadvertently revealing more than intended to onlookers.

However, Benoist swiftly took action, grabbing her iconic red cape and wrapping it around herself to discreetly cover up the incident in between takes.

The incident occurred while several other main cast members were also present on set, including Mehcad Brooks as James Olsen/Guardian, Chyler Leigh as Alex Danvers, Chris Wood as Mon-El, and Erica Durance as Alura Zor-El.

The scene being filmed depicted Supergirl appearing concerned, with Alura Zor-El offering a comforting gesture by placing her hand on Supergirl's arm. As the group looked up at the sky, it seemed as though they were bracing themselves for an impending impact.

Benoist's character was also seen preparing to run, with her hair being playfully tousled by the wind. At one point, both Benoist and Leigh required touch-ups to their makeup in between takes. Brooks, dressed in a silver costume and wearing a helmet, stood alongside Wood's character, Mon-El, who was donning his own superhero outfit. Durance, in a red and black costume featuring the iconic Supergirl "S" on the front, gestured towards Supergirl, who reciprocated with a warm smile.

Aside from the costume malfunction, Benoist's impressive biceps were also on display through her red, blue, and gold Supergirl costume. It's worth noting that in a previous film set of "Supergirl," Benoist was spotted dancing playfully between takes, showcasing her lighthearted nature and ability to enjoy the filming process.

As for the specific scene being filmed in Vancouver, it remains uncertain whether it will be included in the season finale of "Supergirl's" third season. However, the presence of several main cast members suggests that it may hold significant importance within the storyline.

Fun Fact:

In a fascinating twist on the Supergirl character, it was Lois Lane who first portrayed Supergirl in a story published in 1943. This unique narrative, which appeared in Action Comics #60, depicted Lois in a hospital, dreaming of acquiring Superman's powers through a blood transfusion. In her dream, she even wore her own Supergirl costume. This departure from the conventional portrayal of Supergirl as Superman's cousin, Kara Zor-El, added an intriguing dimension to the character's history.
