Despite Meghan Markle's strained relationship with the royal family, she and her father, King Charles, appeared to have a shared disapproval of a specific royal rule.
According to a source cited in Tom Quinn's book, "Gilded Youth: An Intimate History of Growing Up in the Royal Family," as reported by the Daily Express, both the monarch and the Duchess of Sussex had reservations about the rigidity of 'royal protocol.'
The source explained that both Meghan and King Charles were uncomfortable with the requirement for royals to pre-announce their departures from the palace and disclose their destinations.
The staff member stressed that while this practice served security purposes, it also aimed to prevent scenarios where a senior royal's exit might coincide with a junior royal's departure, potentially overshadowing the former.
Regarding King Charles' feelings about this protocol, the source described him as considering it 'silly,' while Meghan was reportedly 'hugely disappointed' by it.
A former palace employee commented, "I believe Charles concurred with Meghan on several points – he found many aspects of the protocol to be senseless. However, effecting change in this regard was challenging... I don't think there has ever been such a stark disparity between one's expectations upon joining the royal family and the stark reality of what it entails. Meghan was profoundly disappointed.
