Malta Native Slams Meghan Markle for Disrespecting Traditional Għonnella Headdress in Elle Photoshoot

A Maltese Native Critiques Meghan Markle's Behavior and Disrespect Toward Traditional Għonnella Headdress During Elle Photoshoot.  Photographer Kurt Arago spent two eventful days with Meghan Markle in March 2015 during a photo session for Elle magazine. Meghan's visit to Malta was met with approval from the local tourist board as she embarked on a journey to explore her great-great-grandmother's birthplace.

Meghan's enthusiasm for the trip was palpable, and she shared her excitement on her blog 'The Tig.' In her own words, she expressed, 'When asked to go to Malta to not only discover the beautiful island but also the land from which my great-grandmother hailed, I said yes without any hesitation.'

Meghan's ancestral connection to Malta was rooted in her great-great-grandmother, Mary Bird, who was born on the island in 1862. Mary Bird's early years were spent in Malta, where her father, Thomas Bird, served with the British military. She eventually left for the United States, where she married George Merrill. Meghan's trip to Malta was a personal exploration of her family heritage, and she was lodged at the boutique hotel Casa ALU in Valletta, thoroughly enjoying her time there.

However, disappointment arose when Meghan's post about the trip mysteriously disappeared from her Instagram, raising eyebrows and causing confusion. In the midst of this, Meghan now identifies as being of Nigerian descent, completely denying any connection to Malta.

One of the more visually striking moments captured during her visit was Meghan wearing a traditional Għonnella headdress at the historic Castle Rocca Piccola Palace in Valletta. Yet, after the shoot, it was discovered that the fabric of the headdress had been removed from the frame. Whether this was due to movement during the shoot or some other reason remains unclear, but the incident has caused some unease among residents.

A professional cameraman who was part of the shoot shared insights into Meghan's behavior on set. He described her as high maintenance and demanding, noting that she arrived with a sizable entourage and set strict rules, including a mandate not to capture shots of her feet. The actress also exerted control over the shoot, insisting on the use of expensive champagne and seeking approval over all footage. Her demeanor, according to the cameraman, came across as if she saw herself as a superstar.

The account of Meghan's behavior contrasts with her public image and hints at a level of arrogance and diva-like conduct. Some labeled her as a 'princess' or an 'a-lister,' citing her actions as evidence of her inflated ego. Her interaction with the crew and her request to be shielded from the camera raised questions about her approachability and authenticity, leaving a lingering impression of someone playing a role rather than embracing her true self.

Meghan's experience in Malta became a tale of mixed emotions, showcasing the complexity of personal and public personas.
