Amidst these developments, Meghan has resorted to using stress patches, often finding herself on the floor before gathering the energy to take a walk around the parking lot. In contrast, the dedicated team led by Jose and his associates in Florida has been diligently working to aid the people of the state in the face of Hurricane Adalia.
With the storm causing significant damage, the team has been preparing hundreds of sandwiches to provide immediate relief once the storm subsides. They are also preparing to embark on a search for those in need.
In response to wind-driven fires wreaking havoc in Hawaii, the Gift for Life's Home versus Hunger team has launched a special online fundraising campaign to support World Central Kitchen's efforts in providing crisis-related hunger relief in Maui. Russ Jones, Chair of Gift for Life, expressed his heart-wrenching concern over the natural disaster's impact on the local community, where residents have suffered substantial losses.
When asked whether the major sponsor, Archwell Foundation, would participate in this crucial initiative, Mr. Jones revealed that due to payment settlement issues in their previous charity collaboration in 2020, Archwell had lost all contact with them. Sources at the time also reported that the vegetable boxes sent by Meghan had arrived in less-than-fresh condition, with some tomato boxes being rotten and emitting a foul odor.
Archwell had pledged to provide 10 million meals served and 6 million pounds of food distributed in Ukraine and neighboring countries. However, it has been revealed that up to 95% of the food was paid for and delivered by World Central Kitchen.
Gift for Life introduced its Home versus Hunger initiative at High Point Market in October 2022 and has raised nearly $50,000 for World Central Kitchen. The team members of Gift for Life's Home versus Hunger initiative include Chris Amos, Mo Mark Furlet, Sharon Davis, Jen Doan, Jenny Hansen, York Curry and Company, Jonathan Kotranik, Holtz Monica Loving, Ivon Russ Jones, Ivon Douglas Sou, Jay Douglas, and Sandra Sterer.
World Central Kitchen (WCK) teams are actively working in Maui to provide meals to evacuees and emergency workers. In the initial two weeks, they have distributed over 60,000 meals to first responders and families in need. WCK's response in Hawaii continues to evolve, and they are collaborating with local chefs and residents to adapt their efforts to meet changing needs.
Chef José Andrés, the founder of World Central Kitchen, partnered with Meghan Markle and Prince Harry's Archewell Foundation in December 2020. In mid-March, the Sussexes announced donations to several charities supporting Ukrainians, including The Halo Trust, an organization close to Princess Diana's heart. Chef Andrés has been actively sharing updates on their work via social media, using the hashtag #ChefsForUkraine.
