Prince Harry and Meghan Markle: Can't Be Part-Time Royals, But Prince Andrew Can

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's relationship with the Royal family appears strained, contrasting with the situation of Prince Andrew, who has not faced the same level of scrutiny despite facing allegations. In Harry's case, his decision to open up about the underlying family issues within the Royal Family in his memoir, "Spare," seemed to contribute to his apparent distancing from the family.

The couple, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, relinquished their senior royal roles in 2020, relocating to the United States in pursuit of a more independent life. Although they lost their HRH titles, they still maintain their titles as the Duke and Duchess of Sussex.

Notably, royal author Tom Quinn suggests that King Charles and Prince William might not be entirely pleased with the current arrangement, as it appears to grant certain privileges to Harry and Meghan.

According to Quinn, both King Charles and Prince William are guided by the late Queen's firm belief that one cannot be a part-time royal. In other words, they assert that you can't divide your time between hobnobbing with celebrities in America for several months and then selectively participating in royal events back in the UK.

This stance aligns with the late Queen's own dedication to her role for seven decades, as she did not favor the idea of only partially committing to one's royal duties. Quinn predicts that Charles and William are unlikely to endorse such an approach, primarily due to Queen Elizabeth's aversion to it.

In stark contrast, Prince Andrew, who faced allegations of sexual abuse and subsequently lost his royal titles, has been welcomed back into the Royal Family circle. This move occurred despite the fact that it was Queen Elizabeth herself who had revoked his titles. Notably, Prince Andrew was recently seen in the company of Prince William and Kate as they attended a Sunday church service at Balmoral during the family's summer break.

Tom Quinn's perspective on this situation is that, in addition to disregarding his grandmother's wishes, Prince Harry's actions risk aligning the Royal Family with the American way of conducting royal duties.
