This power couple, often celebrated as two of the most beloved Royals, already serve as patrons for 50 charities, in addition to running their own projects. In June, Prince William initiated 'Homewards,' a five-year locally led program aimed at ending homelessness, a rare and impactful endeavor. Meanwhile, in January, Kate launched 'Shaping,' a campaign focused on raising awareness of the vital role early childhood plays in shaping our adult lives. Collectively, the couple has engaged in 40 joint engagements so far this year, a number similar to their 2019 involvement. As their three children grow older, questions arise regarding whether they will take on even more duties. Fitzwilliams, in an exclusive interview with Express.co.uk, expressed his belief that they will indeed increase their workload, citing their unique appeal in the Royal landscape.
He pointed out their individual projects, such as William's 'Earthshot Prize' for the environment and his campaign against homelessness, as well as Catherine's 'Royal Foundation Center for Early Childhood.' These initiatives, he explained, showcase their commitment to important causes.
Fitzwilliams also noted that after the Queen's passing and Prince Harry and Prince Andrew stepping back from Royal engagements, there will be a review of Royal patronages, likely resulting in fewer patronages and fewer working Royals under 70 engaging in Royal duties. This means that there will be fewer Royal engagements overall.
Regarding these lower engagement numbers, Fitzwilliams acknowledged that it might seem comparatively few compared to senior Royals like Princess Anne. However, he stressed that William and Kate have a unique ability to raise the profiles of the charities and causes they are associated with.
Royal commentator Daniela Elser, in her column for news.com.au, highlighted that the couple's circumstances have changed significantly since 2019, when all three of their children were under seven years old. With their kids now in school, the couple has more free time to represent the Royal family across the UK.
As for their current plans, the family of five will spend the remainder of the school summer holidays at Balmoral, joining King Charles at the Scotland-based estate. It's his first time hosting summer there as monarch.
