A Lucky's staff member, who happened to be at the restaurant on the same night as Meghan Markle and Prince Harry, shared their observations, noting that the Royals appeared entirely ordinary during their visit.
Meghan and Prince Harry dined at Lucky's in October the previous year, joining forces for a double date with Catherine McPhee and David Foster. McPhee and Markle have been friends since childhood, while Harry and Foster have developed a close bond, resembling a father-son relationship in recent years.
McPhee mentioned in a Hollywood interview in May 2020 that Michael (David Foster) and Harry held hands as they entered the restaurant, emphasizing their close connection. Another waiter, opting to remain anonymous, revealed that Meghan and Harry frequented Lucky's but staff had been instructed not to discuss or divulge information about them. Furthermore, photographs were not allowed to ensure their privacy.
However, it appears that Meghan and Harry's visits have dwindled in the last two years. The waiter mentioned that they had seen the couple visit more than three times, with Meghan and Harry reserving a table for four to six people while waiting for friends. After a couple of hours, they both ordered salads and pie before leaving the restaurant.
Lucky's was a natural choice for the Royals, being one of the most renowned restaurants in Montecito, frequented by numerous celebrities. Celebrity chef Cat Cora even praised Lucky's New York strip steak as one of the best dishes she had ever tasted. The waiter noted that celebrities visit Lucky's regularly, and most are very pleasant, except for the occasional rudeness after a few drinks.
The reasons behind Catherine McPhee and David Foster distancing themselves from the Sussexes in recent years remain unclear. Some sources suggest they may have preferred more private gatherings at their respective homes. They had to request extra seating from the restaurant manager. Interestingly, Harry, who doesn't eat fish, was granted special permission to bring his own 23-pound steak from a nearby restaurant called Lucky. According to Julian, one of the waiters, Harry explained that he didn't eat fish, and as a result, they accommodated his request to enjoy his own takeaway meal while Meghan savored sushi.
