Furthermore, it was previously established that Meghan Markle would not have access to royal jewels without the queen's permission. This policy extended to tiaras, and Meghan's tiara for her wedding, for instance, was selected by the queen herself.
In response to this perceived slight, Meghan chose to wear controversial diamond earrings gifted by a Saudi Prince. She was aware that these earrings would stir controversy and garner attention. Meghan had her heart set on wearing a tiara for that particular night, but her request was denied. Catherine, in contrast, was permitted to wear a tiara at the same time at Buckingham Palace.

During their royal tour, the Sussexes represented the queen, which granted them access to any necessary accessories as long as the queen approved. The queen did not want Meghan to wear inappropriate jewels simply because she desired them.
Meghan seemed convinced that she should enjoy the same privileges as Catherine, as they were both married to two brothers. Even when Queen Elizabeth II offered her a half-a-million-pound platinum and diamond tiara, Meghan expressed dissatisfaction because she had her heart set on an emerald one.
