Chloé's CEO took a light-hearted jab at Meghan Markle while she was wearing a crochet maxi dress. He humorously suggested that designers should consider paying Meghan not to don their creations. Meghan Markle found herself in the midst of controversy this week. The Duchess of Sussex opted for an off-the-shoulder cream-colored ensemble at a World Health Day event in New York City, sparking a flurry of comments on Twitter. 

Many royal fans were unimpressed, with some suggesting that Meghan should have given herself a closer look in the mirror before leaving her hotel room. The comments ranged from criticisms of her outfit, such as likening her appearance to a half-wrapped parcel, to remarks about her perceived victimhood and penchant for preaching.

Some pointed out that the price of an outfit doesn't automatically make it look great. Observations were also made about her ability to make couture clothing appear classy. Meghan's fashion choices continued to face scrutiny when she and Prince Harry were spotted on an exclusive Caribbean island. Meghan was seen wearing a Timeless Panama Hat and an ivory crochet maxi dress by Chloé, which had a retail price of £5,400.

 However, it was noted that the dress was actually part of Chloé's spring-summer 2022 collection designed by Gabriella Hurst and had sold out for $6,650. Meghan had acquired it a year earlier, seemingly in anticipation of a high-profile event.

Critics argued that the dress didn't fit her properly and exposed too much skin. Some compared her fashion choices to Peekaboo cut-out dresses, suggesting she was attempting to blend a youthful, motherly style with luxury. 

Chloé's CEO, in good humor, suggested that designers might need to consider paying Meghan not to wear their clothes because she had a knack for making expensive outfits look like thrift store rejects. However, sources from major French and Italian fashion brands denied any official association with the duchess, emphasizing that she could buy their clothes but had no official contracts.

This situation highlighted Meghan's challenges as she shifted her focus within the fashion industry without receiving substantial support. Every time she wore an outfit from a brand, rumors would circulate about potential ambassadorships or deals, but brands quickly denied any such associations to counter these speculations.
