Some fans have speculated that Disney's newest movie, 'Wish,' may have been influenced by the Duchess of Sussex. However, executive producer Chris Buck has denied these speculations. The animation studio recently unveiled a trailer for 'Wish,' introducing a new female character named Asha.
A whole century has passed since Walt Disney and his brother founded the animation studio, which has since become one of the world's oldest and most influential companies in the industry. As pioneers in the field, Disney is unquestionably an icon. Their animated creations have consistently earned accolades, continuously delighting audiences with high-quality films.
To celebrate their momentous 100th year of enchanting the world, Disney is gifting audiences with a special treat – a brand-new animation feature titled 'Wish.' The talented team behind the film includes Jennifer Lee as the writer and executive producer, Chris Buck as the director, Peter Del Vecho as the producer, and Juan Pablo Reyes Lancaster Jones as the producer.
'Wish' is inspired by the iconic Wishing Star from Disney's 1940 classic 'Pinocchio,' a film Chris Buck fondly remembers from his childhood. The story centers around 17-year-old Asha, voiced by Ariana Dubose, and her pet goat Valentino, voiced by Alan Tudyk. Their adventure unfolds when they encounter a living wish star named Star.
When asked about the inspiration for the main character, Chris Buck replied, 'I want to say that Ariana Dubose was the person who provided the biggest inspiration when creating this character. When she sings, we know she and the character Asha are one.' While this marks Ariana's first Disney animated movie, her prior voiceover work showcases her versatility, making her a fitting choice to bring Asha to life.
Additionally, the film boasts the voices of two other notable actors, Chris Pine and Alan Tudyk. Set in the mythical fairy tale Kingdom of Roses, 'Wish' follows Asha, who, as a recent Oscar winner, is voiced by Ariana Dubose. Asha makes a wish to save her land from an unspeakable evil, drawing inspiration from the iconic Wishing Star from Disney's logo. Many Disney characters have looked to the stars, longing for their truest desires to come true, which served as part of the inspiration for 'Wish.'
During a recent press day for the movie, the filmmakers discussed the inspirations behind the film and why Ariana Dubose was chosen as the lead. They also touched on the film's music, which features seven songs, and why King Magnifico is a true villain in the story."
