Megan and Jessica Mulroney, her former best friend, were briefly inseparable after meeting in Toronto on the set of the television series "Suits." Megan and the stylist had such a close relationship that it was evident when Prince Harry asked her to marry him via FaceTime.
Now, Jessica, who is married to Ben Mulroney, the son of the late Canadian Prime Minister Brian Mulroney, has taken the opportunity to remind everyone of her family's previous encounters with royalty.
She shared a photo on her Instagram story of Brian and his wife Mila hosting Prince Charles and Princess Diana during an official visit to Ottawa in 1991. Furthermore, Jessica's husband, Ben, had dinner with the late Queen Elizabeth II when he was a child in 1987. Brian and Mila had hosted the Queen during a Commonwealth Gathering while she was on an official trip to Canada.
Megan had famously claimed that royal protocol was a mystery to her, and she expressed bewilderment at having to curtsy to the late Queen during their first meeting. However, in his explosive memoir, Harry wrote that Megan certainly hadn't Googled the royal family before their first date.
Jessica and Megan have since drifted apart, particularly after Jessica became embroiled in a social media dispute about white privilege in 2020. This controversy led to her losing a prestigious position at "Good Morning America" and being cut off by the Canadian TV network CTV.
Jessica, a mother of three, reposted the photos with the caption "love this." These pictures were taken during the royal couple's visit to the Canadian capital, Ottawa, on October 29, 1991, where they visited the prime minister's residence and were welcomed by Brian and Mila. Their evening with Charles and Diana wasn't the only royal encounter Brian and Mila had during Brian's nine years in office.
In 1987, three years after Brian was elected as Prime Minister of Canada, he and first lady Mila welcomed the late Queen Elizabeth II to the nation during a Commonwealth visit. The late monarch was pictured with the former Canadian leader and first lady in Vancouver at a Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting.
Following the death of Queen Elizabeth in September 2022, a CBC News report highlighted that Brian Mulroney knew the late monarch well and that they had met on numerous occasions. Speaking to the news station, he paid tribute to her, recalling a Sunday night when they planned a small dinner for her, and the kids, including Jessica's husband Ben, dined with the late Majesty that evening.
These connections shed doubt on Megan's claims that she had no prior knowledge of the royal family before meeting Prince Harry. Megan had previously shared her thoughts on the British royal family, including Princess Kate's wedding, in a blog post in 2014. In it, she discussed her childhood dreams of being a "royal rebel" and her fascination with the pageantry and endless conversations surrounding Kate and William's royal wedding.
Megan's connections and her own statements have raised questions about her professed lack of knowledge regarding the British royal family before her marriage to Prince Harry.
