In addition to taking on eight of his mother's former honorary positions, he introduced some of his personal affiliations. As per the Queen's wishes, a descendant of Princess Margaret was granted a new title.
Among the recipients of this new title is Charles Armstrong Jones, Princess Margaret's grandson. While Charles may not find the spotlight as comfortable as his illustrious grandmother once did, he is undoubtedly forging his unique path as a young member of the royal family. In doing so, he carries forward the legacy of self-determination and maintaining personal privacy—a challenging feat for anyone linked to the House of Windsor.
Armstrong Jones now has the opportunity to take on a more prominent role in the public eye. He holds the 26th position in the line of succession to the throne. Over recent years, he has represented the extended royal family at significant events, including the Trooping the Colour ceremony in September 2022.
During the transition following Queen Elizabeth II's passing and King Charles III's ascension to the throne in May 2023, Armstrong Jones was among the many royal faces in attendance. As the sole child of Princess Margaret with a royal title, he occupies a unique position among Princess Margaret's descendants.
Amidst the broader efforts to streamline the royal family and reevaluate the estates and titles of its members, King Charles had already outlined a plan for Princess Margaret's descendants. With his official appointment as Viscount, Armstrong Jones was entrusted with significant responsibilities, consistent with the late Queen's trust in him.
Following the passing of Lord Anthony Armstrong Jones, his title of Earl of Snowdon passed on to his eldest son, David Armstrong Jones. Consequently, the title now rests with Charles Armstrong Jones, securing his place as the future Earl of Snowdon, much like his father and grandfather before him.
Notably, Charles Armstrong Jones previously held the ceremonial role of Page of Honor during major events such as coronations and the State Opening of Parliament. Interestingly, this role was most recently fulfilled by Prince George during the coronation of King Charles III in 2018.
In addition to his royal duties, Charles pursued his studies in product design engineering at Loughborough University. Since the passing of Princess Margaret in 2002, it has been well-known that the Queen maintained close ties with her nephew and niece, consistently inviting them and their families to celebrate Christmas with the royal family at Sandringham.
