Queen's Childhood Friend Gives Mixed Reviews on Podcast: Kate's Praises, Meghan's Insults

At ninety-one, Lady Glen Connor—a personal friend of Queen Elizabeth's—does not hold back when voicing her opinions, particularly when it comes to Meghan Markle. She had a close acquaintance with the late queen for almost fifty years, and in 1953, she was one of the six maids of honour during Queen Elizabeth's coronation. However, Lady Glen Connor's wisdom extended beyond her ceremonial responsibilities; most recently, she offered her opinions on the podcast "Rose Bud with J's Brandreth."

In the podcast discussion, Lady Glen Connor provided her perspective on the Duchess of Sussex, who is now 42 years old. Her take on Meghan is rather candid. Lady Glen Connor pointed out that Meghan initially seemed to have a somewhat misguided understanding of her role when she joined the royal family.

It appeared as though Meghan approached her new position akin to that of an actress, complete with the glamour of riding in golden carriages. However, Lady Glen Connor was quick to emphasize that royal life involves a substantial amount of tedious and sometimes unglamorous duties.

Notably, Lady Glen Connor is also the author of the book "Lady in Waiting: My Extraordinary Life in the Shadow of the Crown." Beyond her literary pursuits, she holds the title of Tenant Baroness as Glen Connor and was briefly engaged to Johnny Spencer, Princess Diana's late father, although the engagement was eventually called off. She later tied the knot with Colin Christopher Paget Tennant, a wedding attended by both Queen Elizabeth and Princess Margaret. Furthermore, she made cameo appearances in the third and fourth seasons of Netflix's acclaimed series "The Crown," where she was portrayed by Grace Stone and Nancy Carroll.

Meghan Markle herself, as a former member of the royal family, has publicly acknowledged her initial astonishment at the intricacies of royal life. She shared her experiences in a controversial Netflix documentary series, where she humorously described the process of learning the British national anthem via Google and her diligent practice.

Meghan also opened up about her surprise when Prince William and Kate Middleton, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, visited her for dinner, highlighting the marked formality of the occasion. She had been in ripped jeans and barefoot, a far cry from the expected etiquette, as she's known for her more casual and affectionate nature.

Surprisingly, the formality extended even behind closed doors. In an interesting twist, Lady Glen Connor shared an intriguing tidbit from her conversation with John Kerry during King Charles's coronation. She inquired about the American perspective on Prince Harry and Meghan, to which John Kerry responded that many Americans felt deep sympathy for Prince Harry, encapsulating their sentiment.
