The Duke and Duchess of Sussex, both of whom have spoken about struggles with mental health, revealed they've been having quiet conversations with tech companies about how to protect kids. The couple, who are parents to Archie (4) and Lili (2), urged Big Tech to support kids as they appeared on stage at the Royal Foundation Parents Summit to mark World Mental Health Day.
Megan, 42, stressed that the burden can't lay solely on the parents. She added that while some tech platforms have created parental controls and certain guardrails, if parents aren't tech-savvy, they can't navigate that comfortably. It feels pretty overwhelming, so there has to be a better solution than that.
She asked, "As we watch the evolution of social media and the internet, what are those safe modifications that we need to make? People are getting hurt, and children are harming. How do we fix that?" She added that in their discussions with tech executives, the pushback is, "Well, you don't really understand. How can we understand if you're not being transparent?
Please stop sending these children content that you wouldn't want your own children to see." The Royal Big Tech Giants added that shareholders of such companies should accept a little less profit to create a safe space that would stop the suffering.
However, an internal technology company source said that all of Meg's words were nonsense and fabricated. She sent out an email blast to us, and no one answered. She constantly called corders and demanded important meetings. Now we have all the exaggerated details with names and added fabrications to emphasize their imagined relevance.
She doesn't mention any of the tech heads or corporations specifically because if she did, they'd issue a press release that they didn't meet with her. Silicon Valley has no secrets; everyone knows what's going on with everyone else. They're all busy trying to keep up with the Joneses in Silicon Valley and outdo each other with better tech.
These guys at the top of the food chain in tech are seriously far too busy to meet with her. Megan and Harry are insignificant. No names, no corporations means Megan's lying again. If she actually could connect with them, it would be a less than 5-minute phone call. Let's remember that's what Elon does; he has phone meetings for 5 minutes or less.
There's no way she met with Zuckerberg, Musk, Cook, or anyone from ByteDance, AKA TikTok, about having more censorship on their platforms, and none of those guys would meet with her or take her seriously if they did.
In the meanwhile, on last Thursday, Apple CEO Tim Cook traveled to Windsor Castle to see Prince William and Princess Kate, later sharing a photo of the summit on his social media accounts. According to Cook's media posts, the conversation was wonderful and wide-ranging and centered on the environment and mental health.
Over the last decade, William and Kate have devoted their attention to raising awareness about both topics, and recently, the prince announced an initiative to provide mental health care to the farmers who live on his estate, the Duchy of Cornwall. A video shows when asked by a reporter if he had any meetings with Megan and Harry in the US, Mr. Cook did not respond.
