Time Running Out: Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's Multi-Million Netflix Deal in Jeopardy

In 2020, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle inked a significant five-year deal with Netflix, reportedly valued at around $100 million.

However, as the clock keeps ticking on their lucrative contract with Netflix, the royal couple seems to be grappling with fulfilling their end of the bargain. With 18 months remaining on the deal, they appear to be struggling to deliver another blockbuster show for the streaming giant.

Their next project is said to be a movie adaptation of Carley Fortune's novel, "Meet Me at the Lake," produced under their Archewell Productions arm with Netflix having acquired the rights. However, the progress of this project remains uncertain due to the recent strikes in the entertainment industry, involving writers and actors.

While the writers' strike ban was lifted last week following negotiations, the Screen Actors Guild‐American Federation of Television and Radio Artists (SAG-AFTRA) is still on strike, further complicating production timelines.

An insider previously revealed that Netflix was initially excited to have Harry and Meghan on board, expecting them to bring innovative ideas to the platform. However, the ongoing agreement is contingent on the couple's ability to generate compelling content, and given the magnitude of the deal, it is customary to keep it under continuous review.

In 2020, after stepping back from their roles as senior members of the royal family, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex embarked on their partnership with Netflix, estimated at $100 million by Forbes. Notably, they had also entered into a $20 million deal with Spotify, which faced issues and led to doubts about the status of their pending Netflix deal.
