Meghan Markle Denied Spencer Tiara, Accused of Attempted RF Jewelry Theft

Meghan Markle Denied Spencer Tiara, Accused of Attempted RF Jewelry Theft

Earl Charles Spencer, the brother of Princess Diana, recently extended his warmest Thanksgiving wishes from Manhattan to Malibu to every American. He had the chance to go to both of these places in the last few weeks. He included two images, one from each of these locations, along with a joyful turkey emoji in his tweet as part of his Thanksgiving greeting. Some fans of the Sussexes speculated that Earl Spencer might have paid a visit to Harry and Meghan during his time in California.

However, it's worth noting that California is a sizable state, and just being there doesn't necessarily mean he had a chance to see his nephew and his wife. Harry and Meghan have been on the move extensively in recent months, leaving little time for family visits. It's safe to assume that if such a visit had occurred, there would have likely been photos and announcements on both sides of the pond. In his book, "Spare Prince," Harry shared a touching anecdote about his mother's sisters, Lady Jane Fellowes and Lady Sarah McCorquodale. They had offered to lend one of Princess Diana's tiaras for Harry and Meghan's wedding. However, the late Queen had different plans.

She invited the couple to a private appointment at Buckingham Palace just days before the wedding. During this visit, Queen Elizabeth personally presented five of her own tiaras for Meghan to choose from. The selection process took place in the presence of a jewelry expert, a renowned historian who knew the history of each gem in the Royal collection, and the Queen's trusted dresser and confidant, Angela Kelly.

Harry reminisced about the extraordinary morning, describing how they entered the Queen's private dressing room, a space he had never seen before. Alongside Queen Elizabeth were the aforementioned experts, and each tiara they presented was more dazzlingly stunning than the last.

It's interesting to note that Meghan Markle wouldn't have been eligible to wear the famous Spencer Tiara for her wedding to Prince Harry. This tiara is reserved exclusively for women with Spencer lineage, those who marry into the Spencer family, and adopt the Spencer last name. For example, Charles Spencer's first wife, Sarah Jane, wore the tiara on her wedding day, but subsequent wives, such as Caroline Freud and Karen Gordon, did not.

More recently, the Spencer Tiara was worn by Celia McCorquodale, the daughter of Lady Sarah, when she married George Woodhouse. However, Princess Charlotte will not inherit the tiara, as she is not a Spencer by birth. Instead, it is destined to be passed down to the next Spencer heir, possibly Earl Spencer's eldest son, upon his eventual passing.

The question of why Charles Spencer did not offer Meghan the Spencer Tiara, in contrast to what Harry believed, may be rooted in the tiara's strict lineage rules. Katherine, despite her close relationship with the Spencer family, does not have the right to wear the Spencer Tiara. In contrast, Princess Charlotte and Lily, as Diana's granddaughters, may inherit the privilege to wear it. It's important to understand that Megan was never extended the offer to wear the Spencer Tiara due to these familial and traditional restrictions.
