In 2020, Harry relinquished his royal privileges and HRH status, openly expressing dissatisfaction with his role as a working prince. However, his father's current condition and Kate Middleton's medical leave might create an opportunity for Harry. "Remember, Prince Harry is still a senior member of the royal family—he's not a working member, but he is very much a member of the family and Counsellor of State, which means he can step in when the king is unable to perform his duties," explained Harrold.
Although Harry is not a senior royal, he remains in the line of succession. Harrold stated, "Technically, he is able to step in for the king. If he wasn't still Counsellor of State, then that would be a very different matter. The king has always been a forward thinker and has planned in advance for things. I think this is Charles being sensible." Harrold added, "His current situation has probably made him take a step back, put things into perspective, and ensure he has a plan in place."
Previously, Harry mentioned his brief meeting with Charles during an interview on Good Morning America, saying, "I jumped on a plane and went to see him as soon as I could. Look, I love my family. The fact that I was able to get on a plane and see him and spend any time with him, I'm grateful for that. I have other trips planned that will take me back to the UK, and I'll stop in and see my family as much as I can."
During the interview, Harry also discussed his involvement in promoting the Invictus Games and connecting with families facing similar challenges. He emphasized the strength of family unity in times of illness and expressed his happiness in witnessing the joy and excitement of those involved in the Games. "As long as it's safe, we will continue to facilitate these kinds of opportunities for them," he concluded.
