Prince Harry's diminishing hope of reclaiming his royal role has been unveiled by renowned royal author Tom Quinn. According to Quinn, Harry may be grappling with a sense of loss without his family, particularly as pressure mounts from his wife Meghan Markle to maintain some form of relationship with the royal family for business reasons.
In the midst of this update on the British monarchy, it is important to note that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex continue to utilize their royal titles for charitable endeavors and business ventures. However, they have experienced a strained relationship with the family since their relocation to the United States in 2020.
Speaking to the Mirror, Tom Quinn shared insights into Harry's ongoing desire for a modest role within the royal family. He explained, "Harry is under pressure to maintain some level of connection with his family, even if it's solely for the sake of the couple's new projects. Harry still holds vague hopes of being forgiven and offered a supportive role in some capacity." Quinn drew a comparison to the situation faced by Edward VIII and Wallis Simpson, whose intention to marry triggered a constitutional crisis that ultimately led to the king's abdication. Following their marriage in France, although they resided in a beautiful house, they were deeply unhappy. Quinn pointed out that even Edward VIII, after abdicating, was granted minor roles within the royal fold.
Quinn further elaborated that as Meghan and Harry grow older as a couple and the initial passion diminishes, there is a genuine risk that Harry may experience a sense of being adrift, much like Edward VIII did when the initial fervor waned between him and Mrs. Simpson. Quinn emphasized, "This is the critical point where Harry will make significant efforts to rebuild bridges with his brother and allow himself to have a part-time royal role to the extent he desires. However, if palace officials succeed in preventing that, it will likely never materialize, unlike the situation with Edward VIII and his wife."
It is worth noting that unlike Edward VIII and his wife, Harry and Meghan are free to return to the UK without seeking permission from the reigning monarch. However, their visits have been infrequent due to the imposition of coronavirus restrictions shortly after their relocation and concerns for their safety, as they no longer receive taxpayer-funded security.
As Prince Harry navigates this challenging phase, the question of his future role within the royal family remains uncertain, with the potential for significant efforts to reconcile and restore harmony between him and his brother.
