This change in residency comes as pressure increases on the US government to release Harry's Visa records. This pressure follows a lawsuit filed by the conservative Heritage Foundation think tank in Washington DC, which aims to uncover whether Harry had misrepresented himself on his visa application or received preferential treatment from US authorities. This legal action was initiated after Harry's frank revelations about his past drug experiments, which caused an uproar. The judge has now ruled that the review of Harry's Visa documents will take place behind closed doors.
Additionally, Prince Harry has filed a notice with Companies House in relation to the ecotourism nonprofit, Travelist, which he founded. Travelist was created four years ago, and at that time, Harry's residence was listed at Companies House in the UK. However, this has now changed.
Recently, Prince Harry made a surprise appearance at the annual general meeting of Travelist, an initiative he launched in 2019 with the aim of making the travel industry more sustainable. Speaking via video call from his residence in Montecito, the Duke of Sussex called for action to save the beating heart of the travel industry and urged tourists to care about the environment they visit.
Prince Harry and his wife, Meghan Markle, officially stepped down as senior Royals in 2020, eventually moving to the United States, where they currently live with their children, four-year-old Prince Archie and two-year-old Princess Lilibet, in Montecito, California. Last year, they were forced to give up their UK home, Frogmore Cottage, which was a wedding gift from Queen Elizabeth. This was after the publication of Harry's memoir, Spare, two months after its release.
A spokesperson for the Duke and Duchess of Sussex confirmed that they had been asked to vacate their residence at Frogmore Cottage. Prince Harry has made a few quick trips to the UK since his permanent move to America. He visited his father, King Charles, shortly after his cancer diagnosis and met him briefly at his London residence, Clarence House. He is also due to return to the UK in May to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the Invictus Games at a mass in St. Paul's Cathedral. It is not yet known whether Meghan will join Harry at the event.
Prince Harry had previously raised concerns about his security level whenever he visited the UK. He recently suffered a major blow when a high court judge rejected his attempt to lodge an appeal against the court's decision to reject his appeal against the government over his security while in the UK. The Duke of Sussex has taken legal action against the government after it downgraded his security status following his decision to step down as a senior Royal.
