Even though the Duke of Sussex is still fighting for the right to keep his publicly paid security detail, the Duchess and Duke of Sussex renounced their royal titles in 2020 and relocated to the US. However, he apparently intends to keep fighting for additional publicly funded protection in court, so this loss won't deter him, according to Royal sources.
As everyone knows, the Duke of Sussex was understandably distressed in 2020 when he was stripped of the perks that come with being a royal. "His father, the King, literally cut me off financially," he said in his now infamous interview with Oprah Winfrey, adding that he had to afford security for his family. For the Duke of Sussex, a security detail is essential because he is always fighting back against the media, whom he accuses of invading his privacy, spreading false information, and making him feel insecure in public.
On the other hand, the claims that the King abandoned his son horrified him. It was implied that the King had severed ties with the Duke of Sussex, which greatly irritated him. At first, he didn't, and he continued to supply for a while. However, the King eventually had enough. "The father's bank could not continue doling out funds forever."
The Duke of Sussex has sought restitution for his security detail through a series of legal actions. When he contested the reduction of his protection detail due to his demotion from working royal in February, he was unsuccessful in the High Court. On Monday, the High Court rejected the Duke of Sussex's latest appeal, in which he sought enhanced protection for his homecoming to the UK.
"The reality of the matter is that the claimant considers he should receive a different approach to his protection whilst in the UK," the committee in charge of deciding security for Royals decided he should, based in part on his comparison of his own position with that of others, according to the decision. The committee felt differently, and in their capacity as an expert panel, they were within their rights to do so.
Even with this obstacle, the Duke of Sussex will not be deterred. Following the ruling, his attorney's office made the following announcement: "The Duke of Sussex will be seeking permission from the Court of Appeal to challenge the decision of Mr. Justice Lane."
