Kate Middleton Breaks Down in Tears as Mother Carole Middleton Abandons Her Amid Cancer Battle

Princess Kate has been asked to change her name to avoid a clash with two senior Royals. The Princess of Wales's full name is Katherine, although she often uses the shortened name Kate. The Princess of Wales was previously asked to change her name to avoid a clash with two other senior Royals. Although she is often known publicly as Kate, she is still referred to as Catherine by many members of the royal family, including her husband, Prince William.

As reported by OK!, Kate was asked to change her name because it seemed to conflict with Charles and Camilla, whose names begin with the letter "C." According to Prince Harry, who spoke about his sister-in-law's name in his memoir "Spare the King and Queen," they wanted Kate to spell Catherine with a "K" instead of a "C." Harry wrote in his memoir, "There were already two Royal 'Cs' with a crown above, Charles and Camilla. It would be too confusing to have another 'C.' They suggested making Katherine a Kay."

Remembering the moment when he and William found out about the request, Harry added in his memoir, "She turned to Willie, looked at him and said, 'Are you listening to this?' His face was blank." Despite the request, it was noted that the request had not been met and that Kate shared a close relationship with her father-in-law and his wife. The Princess of Wales revealed that she underwent preventive chemotherapy last month in an emotional speech to the public.

The mother of three had previously undergone abdominal surgery last January, although her condition was not thought to be cancerous at the time. The presence of cancer was discovered during post-operative tests. Having kept a low profile since her diagnosis, Princess Kate was last pictured during the annual Festive Celebrations with family on Christmas day, just a few weeks before her surgery at the London clinic in Maralabone.

Kate's diagnosis came just weeks after the Royal shared his cancer diagnosis in February. Speaking earlier this year, an expert shared how Kate's relationship with the Royal has strengthened since their diagnosis.

"He's always had a very good relationship with her," royal biographer Sally Bedel Smith tells people. "I don't think it's rude to say she's like the daughter he never had. He shares Prince William's drive to protect her. They're in this together, Kate and the King."

Following news of her diagnosis, Buckingham Palace said the King was very proud of Catherine for having the courage to speak out as she did.
