Meghan Markle recently opened up about her favorite takeaway from her 3-day visit to Nigeria with Prince Harry. It seems the Duchess of Sussex was most impacted not by any physical souvenir, but by the warm hospitality and meaningful connections she made during the trip.
"The best souvenir to take with us is all the memories we've made," Markle reflected. "It was an incredibly memorable and special trip." The royal couple traveled to Nigeria at the invitation of the country's Chief of Defense Staff, marking their first official international visit since relocating to the US in 2020.
Despite a packed itinerary from May 10th to May 12th, Markle emphasized that the most meaningful aspect was simply being "on the ground" and connecting directly with the causes they care about. "It felt good to be able to go out and focus on the things that mean so much to us and support the causes that are close to our heart," Prince Harry shared.
The Duke alluded to more travel opportunities in the future to further expand their charitable initiatives, noting "it is hugely important for us to meet directly with people supporting our causes and listening in order to bring about solutions, support and positive change." He added, "there's only so much one can do from home and over Zoom, so we look forward to traveling more because the work matters."
Markle and Harry's upbeat spirits during this Nigeria visit stood in contrast to their last trip to Africa in 2019, when the Duchess famously revealed that "not many people have asked" if she was okay, hinting at the challenges they were facing at the time. Now nearly 5 years later, Markle shared, "we're just doing great and happy to be watching our family grow up and evolve."
