When attending events, he would usually say a few words, perhaps add a joke, and enjoy the applause before taking his seat. Typically, these speeches are written by someone else, so it hasn't been much of a challenge for him. While he may not bore the audience as much as his wife, whose speeches can be monotonous, it seems that her impressive speaking abilities are rubbing off on him lately.
There is footage showing Harry and his wife at a dinner where their seats were labeled "Duke" and "Duchess." On this occasion, Harry was supposed to give a brief speech about the Invictus games. Thankfully, we were spared his wife's monotony, to the relief of many. Harry took the podium and spoke about sports being a unifying tool for physical and mental healing. He reminisced about the Invictus games over the past decade, mentioning events in the UK, USA, and Germany. Despite his efforts, the audience appeared disinterested, engaging in their own conversations. Their lack of respect and enthusiasm for the Sussexes was quite apparent. The camera even captured some soldiers who seemed to find the whole thing amusingly irrelevant. Harry, stumbling through his speech, was visibly affected by the lack of attention. He only brightened up at the end when he finally received some applause, undoubtedly relieved.
In addition to this incident, Harry and his wife have faced accusations of not singing the national anthem during their trip to Nigeria, which has been deemed embarrassing by Princess Diana's former butler, Paul Burrell. Speaking to GB News, Burrell suggested that Harry's decision not to sing the iconic song stems from his embarrassment toward the UK. Burrell stated that the couple needs to maintain their image of royalty since that's their unique selling point (USP). Without it, they lack any distinguishing factor. He further expressed his belief that they are no longer working royals and no longer represent the king or the country. Burrell argued that their actions undermine the positive work that royals typically carry out in Commonwealth countries.
Continuing his critique, Burrell mentioned that Harry and Meghan's visit to Nigeria was not a royal visit, so the national anthem should not have been played. He stated that during official royal visits, the national anthem is played, and he questioned why it was played during this particular visit. He also cast doubt on Meghan's knowledge of the national anthem, but he noted that Harry should be familiar with it. After watching a short clip of Harry and Meghan standing as the national anthem played during their tour, Burrell regarded the situation as embarrassing. He believed it was not only embarrassing for the couple but also for the world and, particularly, their home country.
Burrell concluded by expressing his confusion regarding why Harry and Meghan continue to present themselves as a royal couple on the world stage and pretend to be working royals when they are not. He shared the sentiment with Robert Jobson, a British journalist, writer, and author, who believed that the Sussexes' visit to Nigeria was a missed opportunity due to their diminished influence compared to when they were actively working as members of the royal family.
