Prince William has shared a humorous anecdote about a gift blunder that didn't quite hit the mark with Kate Middleton, confessing he now has "no idea" why he chose it. Despite previous successes such as stunning jewelry gifts like Cartier hooped earrings for her 30th birthday and green amethyst, tourmaline, and diamond earrings for the birth of Princess Charlotte, William admitted that not all his gifts have been well-received.
In a candid moment on former England striker Peter Crouch's podcast on BBC Radio Five Live, William revealed that early in their relationship, he thought binoculars would make a good present for Kate. He joked that this particular gift choice is something Kate "has never let him forget."
"I did get my wife a pair of binoculars once - she's never let me forget that," William admitted. "That was early on in our courtship, I think that sealed the deal. It didn't go well. Honestly, I have no idea why I bought her a pair of binoculars, it seemed like a good idea at the time."
In contrast, Kate gave William a heartfelt gift for his 37th birthday in 2019: a scrapbook filled with family photos and homemade pictures from her and their children, Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis.
According to a source from The Sun, Kate and the children compiled a large album of their artwork, capturing their activities over the past year. The album, titled 'Den They were Three,' commemorates Prince Louis's first year in the family and reflects themes from Kate's Back to Nature garden showcased at the Chelsea Flower Show.
"You could say it's a reminder to William about what is truly important," noted the insider. "It's been put together with a lot of thought and care."
