Prince Harry and Meghan Markle married on May 19, 2018, in Windsor, but not everyone looks back on that day fondly. A royal photographer has criticized Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's wedding day as miserable, noting that he and other members of the British press felt unwelcome. The couple celebrated their sixth wedding anniversary earlier this month. While the glorious sunny day left many guests and onlookers in a good mood, the occasion was far less pleasant for those covering it.
Royal photographer Arthur Edwards of The Sun explained how Prince Harry's hostile attitude towards the media was already evident as he struggled to get some good wedding shots. He said, "It was the worst Royal Wedding I have ever been to because Harry was determined to keep the tabloids as far away from him as possible. It was all done with long lenses. The photographers they used on this job were 5 feet away, and it was hopeless. When they passed me in the carriage, they looked the other way."
Edwards added that he believed the press were made to feel unwelcome, saying, "It wasn't just me; it was the entire British press. They were treated poorly in many ways. I think Harry was angry about some of the things that were said about Meghan, and quite rightly. Some of the things that were said about Meghan during the engagement were very harsh."
Less than two years after their wedding day, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex announced their intention to step down as members of the royal family and later moved to California.
Harry's nerves on his wedding day were revealed by a body language analyst, Darren Stanton, on behalf of Betfair Casino. Stanton said, "Harry was feeling nervous on his wedding day. He showed some nervous smiles, but they were expressing genuine emotion. He tried to exude confidence, but his nerves got the better of him. When he was waiting at the altar with William, you could see his face blushing, as did his cheeks. But when Meghan arrived, he was more relaxed and could be more at ease with himself."
On the other hand, Meghan's aligned pose, with her head held high and a calm smile, showed how composed she was. Mr. Stanton explained of the Duchess, "These are all signs of feeling at peace and confident in themselves. Meghan puts Harry at ease. She was very composed, and everything seemed to be in place when she arrived. She took initiative and had a lot of control."
Less than a year after their wedding, on May 6, 2019, Harry and Meghan welcomed their son, Prince Archie. Their daughter, Princess Lilibet, was born on June 4, 2021, in California after they left the royal family. Lilibet has only visited the UK once in her short life so far.
